Season 2 premiered on Netflix on March 8, 2018 and The Musings of Dogtor Barker will review each episode. I don't have time to watch the entire series this weekend but I will watch an episode a day and try to write a review daily so that you will experience my feelings about the show as I experience them. I will try to put my spoilers toward the end of each blog article and will try to identify when they will begin so that readers that haven't yet watched the episode can stop reading at that point. That said, I will assume that you have seen the earlier episodes prior to reading this so be warned if you haven't begun watching the series!
AKA Pork Chop had a lot of surprises in it so let's get started. It begins with Jessica's mom in prison surrounded by armed guards being walked down to meet with Jessica and Hogarth, who Jessica has convinced to represent her. The deal the state is offering is quite simply... either she gives up every piece of information she has, including the location of Dr. Karl, who she is in love with, or she will be sent to The Raft, a prison where criminals with powers go. Suffice to say, The Raft is much worse than any other prison she might be sent. Either way. This has the added benefit of not allowing a situation where anyone else can get there hands on the doctor's work and formulas.
At the prison we meet a sadistic guard who is assigned to "handle" Jessica's mom. Without revealing the details, I was for the first time wishing to see him get his neck snapped. At any rate, in addition to coming up with a plan that will allow Jessica's mom to avoid The Raft without giving up Dr. Karl, Jessica is tasked with trying to protect her mom while she is in prison.
Meanwhile, Trish is finding out that she really isn't nearly the person, at work or anywhere else without the enhancer. She tries to have the formula recreated but can't get it done because the formula contains a number of illegal and potentially lethal ingredients.
- Well, I didn't expect to see Hogarth's healer to turn out to be a fraud. It looks like the nurse made up the whole story when she found out that Hogarth had ALS. It was the perfect scam and it was a very emotional scene when Hogarth got back to her apartment and everything was stolen. Including her hopes of not have ALS. I can't image that the two con artists stayed anywhere close enough to New York for Jessica to catch them but we'll see.
- It increasingly looks like Trish started working Malcolm as soon as she heard - from Jessica - that he liked her. She slept with him and then got him to help her on her investigation. Who knows if she really likes him at all? As for her investigation, I assume that her real goal is to figure out how to recreate the enhancement formula.
- Who knows if the Jessica killed the guard at his apartment but either way, she is in a tough spot. If he lives, he will obviously turn Jessica in and punish her mom. If he doesn't live, then she is a murderer. And this time, it's hard to justify.
- Finally, I can't believe Jessica was so sloppy throughout this episode. First she allowed Trish and Malcolm to easily track down Dr. Karl by leaving info on her apartment. Then she tripped an alarm that let the guard know his home has been broken into.
